TOP SEVEN QUESTIONS TO ASK WHEN INTERVIEWING A CONTRACTOR

The way you find out if a remodeler is right for you is to ask specific questions and listen carefully to the answers.

1. What percentage of your business is referral business? This will indicate if they have satisfied customers

2.   How many projects like mine have you completed in the last year? Some contractors may have years of experience, but in a different area It is a good idea to ask.

3. Do you carry General Liability Insurance and Worker’s Compensation and can you prove it? These policies protect you financially.

4. Will you provide me with written waivers? A lien waiver assures you that all workman and supplies have been paid and that no liens will be placed on your property.

5. Do you offer references when you first meet? The contractor should automatically offer them.  You should call their clients and, especially, go see those that are like your project.

6. Do you give me a formal quote or a “guess-timate”? Insist on thorough detail disclosure, payment schedule, and clear time frame for production.

7. Are you neat and respectful? Check out the contractor’s appearance.  They should be neat and professional.  This avoids having someone in your home that might not respect your home and possessions.
